Garden Court Condominiums is significant for its early design by Albert Kahn and for its association with the family of whiskey giant Hiram Walker (of Hiram Walker & Sons Distillery). Albert Kahn designed Garden Court in 1915 for Hiram Walker’s son, J. Harrington Walker, and it is rumored that the building was constructed so he could keep any eye on Detroit River traffic surrounding his deceased father’s distilleries.
The building originally comprised 32 large, luxurious apartments. Today, Detroit’s treasured Garden Court features 65 beautifully renovated residences.
