LANSING — The state over the weekend rolled out an interactive virtual tour of Michigan’s Capitol building, meaning it now takes just a computer and an Internet connection to visit the historic building.
The Michigan Capitol Commission, the Capitol’s governing board, formally unveiled the feature today. The group calls it the only such tour of a statehouse anywhere in the country.
Visitors can navigate 360-degree, 3-D panoramic views of the Capitol interior, zoom in to look up close at decorative features on walls and ceilings and click to watch videos from inside such places as the Rotunda and the governor’s office. In addition, paintings on the walls of every room are interactive, so visitors can click on the image to learn more about its history.
